The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that teachers across the Philippines will be receiving bonuses as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication to educating the nation’s youth. These bonuses come as a welcome relief to many teachers who have faced challenges and made sacrifices throughout the year.

Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) One of the most significant bonuses that DepEd teachers can receive is the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB). This bonus is awarded to teachers who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their duties and have contributed to the overall improvement of the education system. The PBB is based on the individual teacher’s performance rating and can range from 5,000 to 35,000 pesos.

Year-End Bonus and Cash Gift In addition to the PBB, DepEd teachers are also entitled to a year-end bonus and cash gift. The year-end bonus is equivalent to one month’s basic salary, while the cash gift is a fixed amount set by the government. For 2021, the cash gift has been set at 5,000 pesos. These bonuses are typically released in November or December, providing teachers with additional funds during the holiday season.

Chalk Allowance Recognizing the need for teachers to have access to essential teaching materials, DepEd provides a chalk allowance. This allowance is intended to cover the cost of chalks, erasers, and other necessary supplies used in the classroom. The chalk allowance is a fixed amount given to teachers at the start of the school year.

Proportional Vacation Pay Teachers are also entitled to receive proportional vacation pay (PVP) for unused vacation leave credits. The PVP is computed based on the teacher’s basic salary and the number of unused vacation leave credits. This bonus allows teachers to receive compensation for the leave credits they have earned but have not been able to use due to their commitment to teaching.

Clothing Allowance To help teachers maintain a professional appearance, DepEd provides a clothing allowance. This allowance is intended to assist teachers in purchasing appropriate attire for work. The clothing allowance is given annually and is a fixed amount determined by the government.

Remote Teaching Allowance In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to remote learning, DepEd has introduced a remote teaching allowance for teachers. This allowance is designed to help cover the costs associated with teaching from home, such as internet expenses and the purchase of necessary equipment. The remote teaching allowance is a much-needed support for teachers who have had to adapt to new teaching methods during these challenging times.

The bonuses provided by DepEd to its teachers are a recognition of their vital role in shaping the future of the country. These bonuses not only provide financial support but also serve as a motivation for teachers to continue their excellent work in educating the youth. As the country moves forward, it is essential that we continue to support and value our teachers, ensuring that they have the resources and incentives needed to carry out their noble profession.
